At Sea
Bound for South Georgia

09:15 Mandatory South Georgia Briefing: Please join Jonathan in the Expedition Lounge. This is a mandatory briefing that everyone must attend. Attendance will be taken!

In the Briefing, we will learn about the regulations we are required to observe when conducting our landings in South Georgia.

The ship continued to pitch and sway as the swells surged and rolled around us. As the rocking got worse we retreated to our cabin only emerging to get food, attend Scott’s presentation on the Shackleton Expedition, and go up on deck to observe Shag Rock.

Very Shagadelic, Baby

Shag Rock, a cluster of six islets jutting out like shark teeth from the Southern Ocean is home to thousands of blue-eyed shags (Imperial Cormorant). We were able to circumnavigate the islands, enjoying a 360-degree view of these jagged rocks, which are normally shrouded in thick fog. We were told how lucky we are, considering not many people see the rocks let alone circumnavigate them. Yes, we were lucky indeed.

The coolest part was watching hundreds of shags doing fly bys as the ship sailed by the islands. Some even hovered and circled above the ship, creating quite a spectacle.
